GI MAP Test Launches Free Cyclospora Result Report
GI MAP Test today launched a free result report for customers whose GI-MAP™ stool test comes back positive for Cyclospora cayetanensis. The report is written by a functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner and has a deliberately narrow purpose: explain what the finding means, and get the person to a clinician who can treat it.
What the report does
- Explains what Cyclospora is and what a positive result on their panel means.
- States that first-line treatment is prescription-only, so they need to see a clinician promptly.
- Sets out what to bring and what to ask at that appointment — including flagging a sulfa allergy up front, because alternatives are limited.
- Identifies when to seek urgent care rather than waiting for an appointment.
- Notes that cyclosporiasis is a reportable condition in most US states and nationally notifiable in Canada.
- Sets expectations for recovery, including why symptoms can persist for weeks after the parasite clears.
What the report deliberately does not do
We cannot prescribe, and we are not positioned to treat a parasitic infection. Rather than blur that, we have written the limits into the service itself. The report contains no antibiotic guidance, no dosing, no alternatives to prescribed therapy, and no supplement recommendations. Nothing in it is framed as treating the infection.
Supportive care that is genuinely within scope — fluids and rehydration, rest, eating as appetite returns — appears only as something to do alongside the treatment a clinician prescribes, never instead of it. There is no self-treatment path for this infection, and we do not offer one.
Why we built it
Two facts sit awkwardly together. The standard stool ova-and-parasite examination frequently misses Cyclospora, so people can be unwell for weeks without an answer. And once the parasite is identified, the treatment that works — trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole — is prescription-only. A positive result is therefore the beginning of a clinical process, not the end of one, and the gap between getting a result and knowing what to do with it is where people lose time.
A result without direction is not much use. This report is meant to close that gap in the one direction that helps: toward a prescriber.

The report is included at no extra cost for anyone who orders their GI-MAP™ test through GI MAP Test and whose result is positive for Cyclospora. It comes with the test — there is nothing further to buy.
