Where the GI-MAP™ Test Is Available in the US

The GI-MAP™ ships to every US state except three. If you live in New York, New Jersey or Rhode Island, please read this before ordering.

The short answer

  • Available: every US state except the three below.
  • Not available: New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island.
  • Why: state clinical-laboratory regulations governing which tests may be offered to residents of those states.
  • No workaround: the restriction covers where the sample is collected and the address on the lab paperwork, not just the shipping label.

Can I order the GI-MAP™ in my state?

Select your state for a direct answer. There are three where the answer is no, and we would rather you knew in ten seconds than at checkout.

Choose your state above for a straight answer. Without JavaScript: the test is available in every US state except New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

The GI-MAP™ is processed by Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory, a CLIA-certified laboratory in Alpharetta, Georgia. Individual states set their own rules about which laboratory tests may be offered to their residents, and a number of tests that are available nationally are not available in every state as a result.

New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island

In these three states the laboratory cannot:

  • ship a GI-MAP™ collection kit to an address in the state,
  • accept a sample collected in the state, or
  • process requisition paperwork that lists an address in the state.

All three conditions have to be met for the test to run, which is why there is no partial workaround. We would rather tell you this on a page you can read in ten seconds than take an order we cannot fulfil.

Why we will not help route around it

People sometimes ask whether they can have a kit sent to a relative in a neighbouring state. We do not arrange that. The restriction attaches to where the sample is collected and whose address appears on the laboratory requisition, so a sample collected in a restricted state cannot be processed no matter what address is on the shipping label. Submitting paperwork with an address you do not live at would also misrepresent the requisition.

If you live in one of these states

The practical route is a locally licensed practitioner. Gastroenterology and functional-medicine practices in your state can order comprehensive stool testing from laboratories that hold the relevant state permit, and your practitioner can advise which panel fits your situation. We are not able to recommend a specific alternative laboratory, because we have not evaluated their panels and would be guessing.

One thing we can help with: if you already have GI-MAP™ results from another practitioner, clinic or lab and want them explained, the GI-MAP Interpretation Review is a written practitioner analysis of results you already hold. It does not involve shipping a kit or collecting a new sample, so the state restriction does not apply to it.

Everywhere else in the US

In every other state the kit ships free to your door, typically arriving in 3-5 business days. You collect one sample at home, and the collection vial contains a preservative that keeps the sample stable for up to 7 days at room temperature, so there is no rush to get it back the same day. Results go to your practitioner in approximately 10-14 business days.

About this page

Prices, shipping terms and availability on this page are maintained by the GI MAP Test team and checked against our current checkout and the laboratory’s published requirements. It is commercial and logistical information, not medical advice, and it is not a clinical review of the test. For what the results themselves mean, see the biomarker guides, which are practitioner-reviewed.
