The comprehensive GI-MAP™ costs $497, or $600 with the zonulin add-on. The Standard panel is on a dated US offer, reduced from its regular $525 price. You will not find a countdown timer on this site, a struck-through "was" price we never actually charged, or a discount that resets every week — if a price changes, it changes, and this page changes with it.

What each panel costs and covers

What the price includes

• The collection kit, shipped free to your door in the US (typically ships within 1–2 business days and arrives 3–5 business days after shipment in the continental U.S.).
• The laboratory order placed by an authorized ordering practitioner — the GI-MAP™ cannot be self-ordered, and this is how that requirement is met.
• qPCR analysis at Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory, a CLIA-certified lab.
• Prepaid return shipping in most areas.
• Your results report, approximately 10-14 business days after the lab receives your sample.

What it does not include

• A personalised written interpretation. That is the separate $245 Interpretation Review. Your results report and a Self-Interpretation Guide (PDF) are included with US Standard orders. The guide is general educational material; a personalized practitioner review with tailored recommendations is the separate $245 service.
• Return shipping in some rural and remote areas. Where there is no nearby FedEx Office, FedEx Ship Center or authorised shipping partner, prepaid return may not be available and return postage may be yours to cover. See shipping.
• Supplements or treatment. We sell a test, not a protocol. The GI-MAP™ is a laboratory test and does not diagnose, treat or cure anything on its own.
• Ongoing clinical care. If you need continuing management, that comes from a practitioner you engage separately.

Is the GI-MAP covered by insurance?

Usually not. We are a direct-pay service and do not bill insurance carriers, so budget as though your plan will not reimburse you. HSA/FSA cards are accepted for eligible purchases. GI-MAP with zonulin cost

Paying with HSA or FSA dollars

HSA/FSA cards are accepted for eligible purchases. Ask your plan administrator whether your exact purchase qualifies and what documentation is needed before ordering. Why it costs what it costs

Two things account for most of the difference between this and a $99 consumer gut kit.

The method. Most direct-to-consumer microbiome kits use 16S rRNA sequencing, which is good at describing which bacterial groups are present and is not designed to quantify a specific pathogen. The GI-MAP™ uses quantitative PCR against defined targets and reports a quantity for each. Those answer different questions, and a quantitative result on a defined target panel is the more expensive one to produce.

The practitioner requirement. The GI-MAP™ is not a self-order wellness product. A licensed practitioner has to order it, and that review is built into what you pay rather than bolted on.

Whether that trade is worth it depends on your question. If you are curious about your microbiome in general terms, a cheaper consumer kit may genuinely be enough. If you or your practitioner need quantified results on specific organisms, a 16S consumer test will not substitute. We would rather you pick correctly than pick us.

How much does a stool test cost in general?

If you are comparing the GI-MAP™ against “a stool test” broadly, the honest answer is that stool test prices span two orders of magnitude — because the products answer different questions.

• Conventional stool culture or ova-and-parasite exam. Ordered by your physician and billed through insurance, it may cost you a copay or nothing at all. If your situation is an acute illness, start there, not here.
• Consumer 16S microbiome kits: $99–$250. They describe your bacterial community without quantifying pathogens.
• Comprehensive qPCR panels. These sit at the top of the range. The GI-MAP™ is $497 flat, with or without insurance, because we do not bill insurers either way.
• A hospital-lab GI-PCR panel paid out of pocket. The price varies widely by facility. If you go that route, ask for the self-pay price in writing first.

A note on prices you see elsewhere

The GI-MAP™ is sold through many practitioners and resellers and prices differ between them, sometimes substantially. Some sites advertise a permanent "sale" against a reference price they do not actually charge. Under the FTC’s pricing guidance a comparison price has to be one the seller genuinely offered, so a discount that never expires is not a discount.

If you are comparing quotes, compare the total at checkout, check whether shipping both ways is included, and check whether a practitioner order is included or something you have to arrange yourself.

Why does the GI-MAP™ cost more than a consumer microbiome test?

Consumer microbiome kits typically use 16S rRNA sequencing, which identifies bacteria present but is not designed to quantify specific pathogens. The GI-MAP™ uses quantitative PCR and reports how much of each target organism was detected, and it is ordered through an authorized practitioner rather than sold directly as a wellness report. The two are different categories of test, and price follows that.

Is there a cheaper GI-MAP™ option?

The H. pylori Profile at $237 is the least expensive panel, but it is a targeted test for H. pylori and its virulence factors, not a comprehensive gut panel. If you need the full microbiome, parasite, fungal and intestinal-health marker picture, the Standard panel at $497 is the entry point. The regular Standard price is $525; this offer ends on the date shown above.

A personalized written interpretation with nutrition, lifestyle and supplement recommendations is a separate $245 product, because not everyone needs it — many people take their report to a practitioner they already work with.
