The five steps
- 1. Order online and complete a short health intake.
- 2. A licensed FDN-P reviews the intake and places the lab order — this is the practitioner requirement, handled for you.
- 3. The kit arrives in 3-5 business days.
- 4. Collect one sample at home; the vial keeps it stable up to 7 days at room temperature.
- 5. Ship it back and get results in about 10-14 business days.
The process, step by step
From order to results in five steps
Tap any step to expand it.
You order online and answer a short set of health questions. The intake is not a formality — it is what the practitioner reviews in step 2, and it is where you list your medications and supplements.
This is the step that matters most and the one people do not expect. The GI-MAP™ cannot be self-ordered — a licensed practitioner has to order it. A licensed Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner reviews your intake and places that order, which is why you do not need a referral or an existing functional-medicine provider.
Inside: the collection vial with its preservative, collection aids and instructions, the completed laboratory requisition, and return packaging with a prepaid label in most areas.
One stool sample, no clinic visit, no blood draw. Follow the instructions in your kit rather than general advice online — they are specific to the vial you received.
The vial keeps the sample stable for up to 7 days at room temperature, so there is no need to collect and post on the same day.
Drop the package at a FedEx Office, FedEx Ship Center or authorised shipping partner. The clock starts when the laboratory receives it, not when you post it — which is why the end-to-end figure is closer to three weeks.
Why you cannot just add it to a cart anywhere
The GI-MAP™ is a laboratory test that requires a licensed practitioner to order it. That is why searching for it turns up practitioner clinics rather than a straightforward buy button, and it is the single thing that stops most people from getting the test.
We resolve it by supplying the practitioner. You complete a health intake at checkout, a licensed Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner reviews it and places the order with the laboratory. You do not need a referral, an existing functional-medicine provider, or a doctor willing to sign off. What you should not believe is anyone selling the GI-MAP™ as a no-practitioner-involved consumer product — that is not how this test is ordered.
What arrives
- The collection vial, containing a preservative that keeps the sample stable for up to 7 days at room temperature.
- Collection aids and step-by-step instructions.
- The laboratory requisition paperwork, already completed with your practitioner order.
- Return packaging with a prepaid label in most areas.
Collecting the sample
One stool sample, collected at home, no clinic visit and no blood draw. Follow the instructions in the kit rather than any general advice on this page — they are specific to the vial you receive.
Two things worth planning around. First, some medications and supplements can affect specific markers, so tell the practitioner reviewing your intake what you are taking and follow the guidance in your kit about anything to pause beforehand; do not stop a prescribed medication on your own to take a test. Second, the 7-day room-temperature stability window means you do not have to collect and ship on the same day — collect when it is convenient, then drop the package at a FedEx Office, FedEx Ship Center or authorised shipping partner.
Where it is available
Every US state except New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island, where state laboratory regulations mean the lab cannot ship kits, accept samples, or process paperwork listing an address in those states. Full detail on state availability. Canadian customers order through gimaptestcanada.com. See also availability by state and metro.
Which panel to order
Most people want the Standard panel at $525 — the comprehensive 85+ marker picture. Add zonulin ($600) if gut-barrier integrity is a specific question for you. The H. Pylori Profile ($237) is cheaper but narrow — only order it if H. pylori specifically is the question. Full comparison on the cost page.
Already have GI-MAP™ results from another clinic and just want them explained? You do not need to buy a new test — the Interpretation Review works on results you already hold.
Practitioner order included. Free shipping. Results in 10-14 business days.
